Don't Plan Your Nairobi Safari Until You've Read This ...
Endearingly referred to "the City in the Sun," Nairobi, Kenya's cosmopolitan and thriving capital is East Africa's largest, highest and busiest metropolis. As most of the safaris start or end here, destinations in the city will likely feature heavily on your Kenya safari itinerary.
Nairobi, though, is a city of contrasts; leafy suburbs with lush gardens ...

and gleaming skyscrapers...

... but also dusty shanties, world class restaurants but also cheesy eateries, modern shopping malls but also plenty of open air markets.
But perhaps nowhere else in the world can you, within minutes, retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city into the serene atmosphere of a national park, which is home to virtually all the big five!

If you are the nocturnal kind, you will find good company in plenty of pubs, clubs, discotheques and supermarkets (!) in this city that never sleeps. Be extremely security-conscious though, because Nairobi can be dangerous and petty crime is, unfortunately, rampant but more on that later. Although there is more to see than one can possibly enumerate, the tourist attractions below are my family's favorites and we consider ourselves fortunate to be able to return to them over and over but then again, we live here:-).
