Was Barack Obama Born in Kenya?

Was Barack Obama born in Kenya? Well... yes and no. No, if you are talking about the US President-Elect who in fact was born in Hawaii...

Obama's Kenyan Connection

...but yes, if you are talking about his father and namesake.

Indeed, Barack Obama Senior was born and raised in a hitherto little quiet village called Kogelo located on the shores of the magnificent Lake Victoria in Western Kenya. I say hitherto as, because of its connections to the US President-Elect, this village has now been transformed into beehive of activity.

The genius of the older Obama is that he went from herding goats in Kogelo to studying Economics at Harvard. In that sense, he blazed the trail for the younger Obama, who is himself an alumnus of Harvard Law School.

Books by Obama

You can read all about his extraordinary journey in his bestsellers, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance and The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream and about his incredibly well-thought out strategy for America in his latest release, Change we Can Believe in: Barack Obama's Plan to Renew America's Promise.

Dreams from my Father

Barack Obama's first book, Dreams from My Father, is a compelling and moving memoir highlighting his incisive perspectives on the issues of race, identity, and community.

It traces his journey as a youngster, as a community organizer in the Chicago southside and at the Harvard Law School where he became the first black president of the Harvard Law Review.

Obama also chronicles his journey to Kenya where he confronts his African ancestral roots and searches for answers to nagging questions about his late father.

The Audacity of Hope

In his second book The Audacity of Hope, Obama engages themes raised in his keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention that catapulted him to national and international fame.

He also shares personal views on faith and values and offers a vision for the future that involves repairing a "political process that is broken" and restoring a government that has fallen out of touch with the people.

The moral of his story? Once you get involved in an issue you are passionate about, you will achieve extraordinary results!

This book is a must-read for all who want an insight into the mindset and values of the next President of the United States of America.

Change We can Believe in

In Change We Can Believe In, Obama eloquently outlines his inspiring vision for America.

More specifically, he enumerates his bold and specific ideas on how to fix the ailing economy and strengthen the middle class, make healthcare affordable to all, achieve energy independence, and keep America safe in a dangerous world.

In that sense, Change we can Believe in is a "Presidential crystal ball" as it gives the reader a glimpse into Obama's plans for America.

And, there are generous dozes of the memorable "Yes we can" slogan that won him the US presidency by inspiring multitudes of American voters.

More on the Kenyan Connection...

Many of the Senator's relatives still live in Kogelo with his effervescent grandmother, Mama Sarah being a local and international celebrity.

The entire country watched the US presidential race with great anticipation and deafening cheers rent the air when "the son of the soil" clinched what is unequivocally, the most powerful position in the world. You can watch his epic and improbable journey in the insightful DVD titled Frontline: The Choice.

In the meantime, plan a visit to Kisumu and Siaya if you want to imbibe the brilliance of the remarkable Senator and his father. You might just leave with loads of inspiration for your next venture and you will be well-placed to answer questions like "Was Barack Obama born in Kenya?"

Of course, you'd have to get to Kenya first:-)
